Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits York County Criminal History, why that information is used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. Continued use of the site indicates acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. York County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When a visitor sends an email, the message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required.

Data We Gather Automatically

Servers and analytics services can collect ordinary technical details as pages load. That information may include:

  • The visitor's IP address and page-view times
  • Browser type, version, device, and operating system
  • Pages viewed and the amount of time spent on them
  • The referring website, when that information is available

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics services combine that usage information. Browser settings can block cookies, though some site functions may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

Collected data supports operation and improvement of the site. It may be used for the following purposes:

  • Operating pages, diagnosing faults, and improving load times
  • Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
  • Measuring which York County resources are most useful
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

York County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to York County courts, the Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, South Carolina Department of Corrections, and South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes shown on some pages. Information submitted to one of those tools is controlled by that provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Review those terms before sending a query because this policy does not govern the partner's systems.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to York County offices, South Carolina courts and agencies, legal resources, advertisers, or search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy applies. Some advertising providers can also track activity across websites from their own systems.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. Limited data may still be available to:

  • Analytics and advertising services that support site operation
  • Search providers that receive a query through their tools
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data handled by the site. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and this policy does not promise that a breach or loss is impossible.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults. Personal information is not knowingly collected from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when a valid deletion request is received.

Your Data Rights

Applicable law may allow a person to request access to personal data held by this site, correct it, ask for deletion, or object to some processing. South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act, Title 30, Chapter 4 governs access to public-agency records, while S.C. Code ยง23-3-115 governs SLED criminal-history dissemination. Those laws concern government records and do not turn this private site into their custodian. A request about an official York County or SLED record must go to the agency that maintains it.

  • Request a copy of personal information held by the site
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Request deletion where the law permits it
  • Opt out of processing when an applicable right allows it

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised policy takes effect when posted here, and the effective date will be updated.
